Caprina Valentine,
Designer / Photographer
Hello, I'm Caprina Valentine. I'm a 27 year old award-winning
website developer with 12 years experience developing
high-quality websites for clients in a range of industries on
Vancouver Island and beyond.
I began in March 1998, at the age of 15, training people
on computers when the Internet was just blossoming into the
realm of mass awareness. At the time, I remember wanting to
be a lawyer when I grew up. I even went so far as to do my high
school work experience at a law firm and when all the lawyers
there asked me what I currently did for work, I said, "I teach
people to use computers." And you know what they said? ..."Stick
with computers."
So I picked up web technology and never looked back. I
am completely self-taught in the realm of website development
and internet technology, things that only experience can really
teach you. I did take two years of business-related courses at
the University of Victoria, but continue to learn independently,
having since gained extensive knowledge in the areas of consumerism
psychology, marketing, and user-interface design.
I enjoy my job. It's creative and challenging. I meet
good people, with whom I take pride in establishing a healthy
designer-client relationship. And I feel that my design style
is able to evolve, and my technical abilities to expand, with
every new project. Technology is a wonder. I enjoy learning new
ways of solving problems. True to my nature, I am continually
reading, learning, testing, and seeking new information and developing
practical solutions for my clients.
Currently I live in the City of Victoria, British Columbia's
capital city, rich with arts and culture. I can also often be
found in Sooke, an hour from Victoria, enjoying the local beaches
and parks or visiting my folks. I believe in supporting local
Vancouver Island businesses, events, and the arts scene. I am
a member of the Community Arts Council of Greater Victoria (having
entered two shows) and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
Otherwise I enjoy painting, photography, and reading, and I
keep active swimming, running, biking and hiking (I relax with yoga).
I also enjoy travelling with my boyfriend Steve (computer
hacker, game developer extraordinaire
and rockstar)
to places like San Francisco as well as locally, around the Island.
